Hourly Respite Services:
Hourly respite services are provided in the home or out in the community. Due to the Covid-19 situation, we have created a friendly, safe space within our office where the children can have fun learning, making a variety of crafts or playing games.
Some parents/caregivers use this time to work at an outside job or to go to school or for many other purposes and feel more comfortable having our services workers in the home. The parents/caregivers may also choose to remain home during respite and may choose to cach up on household rsponsibilities, sleep or spent time bonding with their other children. Our service workers are outfitted with flash card systems for learning and a few other activities to ensure a rewarding experience for the child.
Respite services will pick up and provide transportation to somewhere in the community; such as outdoor/indoor playgrounds, swimming pools, clubs, museums, libraries and a multitude of other places within the city.
We have created a safe zone, away from the general public, that our service workers can bring the child to. This space has been outfitted with games, crafts, books and a multitude of learning activities.
Our support workers will help the child develop many skills when working in the public. Going out into the community helps the child to develop socialization/communication skills. Other opportunities of Mentorship is to take the child shopping, teaching how to calculate expenses, and generally how to behave properly in public using manners and learning patience.
Sometimes our service workers are requested to work with the child in the home, quite often it it to teach them how to do light housekeeping (chores) or to teach them to cook an easy meal. This is a great environment to tach them about rules and manners.
